Why Zamna? "Zamna" is a paramount creator deity in Maya mythology, associated with the sky, day, and night. As the Maya god of wisdom, he is credited with inventing writing, medicine, and introducing agriculture. Our team’s philosophy is rooted in closeness to nature and promoting a synergy with beautiful culture and people of the land.
Zamna Farms is situated in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, where the subtropical climate is ideal for cultivating tropical and citrus fruits. Our farm began and has seen its growth through the marvelous, health-promoting papaya. It has been a blessing to have our papayas in such demand that we continue to add hundreds of hectares and bring bounty to previously underutilized land, to bring employment to areas in real need and to spread the love of healthy eating to so many. The blessings continue and the market has asked for more from us. We are currently planning our expansion into habanero peppers, cherry tomatoes, and cacao (we are extra-excited for this one!).
While Zamna Farms embraces the history and culture of the Yucatan, we also bring a modern approach to the business of farming. The owners of Zamna Farms are a diverse group of business operators across varied fields from North America and Europe, with success in running various businesses. We recognized an opportunity to establish a reputable and reliable supplier of high-quality, fresh Whole Foods for their valued customers.
We have designed our entire operations around our buyers, their unique needs and a level of consistency not previously found in this market. Our management team, with decades of industry experience, is passionate about cultivating high-quality, fresh Whole Foods on a consistent, reliable basis. Our production supplies fruit year-round at the levels our buyers need, reducing supply shortages, maintaining fair prices and maximizing buyer efficiency. We are established, designed and operating to delight our customers and our customers’ customers!
The ownership team brings decades of successful use of technology to achieve better operational results. We are and will continue to advance new technologies in farming where it better fulfills our mission. One example is the use of the latest solar technology to both improve our business results and be more sensitive to the ecology of our farm and surrounding lands.
We value our people. They are our most important asset (by a long shot!). We prioritize hiring individuals with strong personalities, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. Experience is not a primary factor in our recruitment process. Instead, we focus on rewarding and promoting employees based on these core values. We embrace taking chances on people and strive to promote from within whenever possible. While skills can be acquired through training, character is an inherent trait that cannot be taught. It is an absolute pleasure to work with the people of the Yucatan who, everyday, impress us more. We are happy to have them as friends and as the most integral part of the Zamna Family.
Currently, our primary focus is on cultivating papaya. However, we will soon establish a schedule for cultivating other crops, including habanero peppers, cherry tomatoes, and cacao.
From the experiences of our owners in other industries and countries, it is crucial that we give back to the community.
We prefer to hire individuals without prior experience and provide them with the necessary training to become skilled tradespeople. This approach empowers our staff to earn a sustainable living for themselves and their families.
Our management and marketing team, along with our local workers, have over 50 years of combined expertise in farming, packaging, quality assurance, and export processes.
